Presentation

How to develop and promote the anthropological study of the Chinese social and cultural world? How can anthropologists working on China(s) contribute to the general research field of anthropology? How should the anthropology of China(s) be taught in universities to new generations of graduate students, and potential new researchers? Is there of should there be specific dimensions of a European anthropology of China(s), distinguishing it from research based elsewhere? These questions are the ground of the “Regional Working Group China” of the German Anthropological Association since its foundation in 2015. Questioning the Chinese world in its diversity and complexity, as well as in its links with other cultural regions, the research group works on addressing these issues in order to advance the contribution of the anthropology of China(s) to the general field of anthropology in the context of the German speaking world.
