Résumé

Gongkar Chosde Monastery is located 70 km southeast of Lhasa. Its murals date back to the mid-fifteenth century and represent a significant turning point in the art of Tibetan Buddhist painting. While most Tibetan artists at the time were keen on following the Nepalese aesthetic tradition, these 15th century murals were made in an unexpected style, marked by strong and lavish Chinese influences. Khyentse chenmo, the leader of the local atelier and the greatest Tibetan painter, took charge of the excution of all the sculptures and paintings. Luckily, half of the murals have survived to this day. These murals, which originated from the monastery, have given rise to a new and unique artistic style, which has had a pervasive influence in Tibet until now. (en chinois, traduction en français).
