PhD Position: “French translations of the Yijing in the 20th century”

Supervisor: Prof. Tze-ki Hon, Department of Chinese and History
Qualification
The student must have a master’s degree in History, Chinese studies or related fields (e.g. modern French literature and modern French arts).
Dissertation
The student will complete a PhD dissertation on the French translations of the Yijing (Book of Changes) in the 20th century in four years. The student will be enrolled at CityU and will reside in HK.
Fellowship
If admitted by City University of Hong Kong, the student will receive the following
The Postgraduate Studentship rate for 2019/20 is around HK$16,500 per month. Studentship is subject to revision in September of every year, and any revision to the rate will apply to both current and new students, but the student needs to pay tuition fee at HK$3,508 per month. Research students can apply for conference grants for attending local and overseas conferences. The maximum value of a grant is HK$10,000. Studentship recipients are normally required to undertake not more than 10 hours per week on average of teaching and/or research support duties, as assigned by the Department/School. They shall not engage in any paid employment without the prior approval of the University.
The student can apply for the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowships of the Hong Kong government. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$2,564) and conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~US$1,282) per year for the awardees.
